Saint Cyriacus: a Closer Look at the Cathedral’s Sculptures

When our Ancona Walking Tour reaches the Cathedral of Saint Cyriacus, the city unfolds below us. Saint Cyriacus stands in elegant simplicity over the old town, offering panoramic views of the port. From the cathedral square, we observed the ancient arches, the gulf, and the hills in the distance.

Thanks to the fresh, clear weather, we took time to admire the medieval portal, crafted from white Mount Conero stone and Veronese red marble, and adorned with the symbols of the Evangelists.

Inside the cathedral, sculpture guides us through different ages, from Byzantine influences to medieval art and sixteenth-century tombs.
